Soul Scissors — Power Evaluation

Final Score: 55 ± 8 · Confidence: Medium

  • Intrinsic: 55 · Deck: 56 · Meta: provisional
  • Primary role: Board breaker / Going-second · Secondary: Recovery/Recursion

Why it scores here

Soul Scissors converts a monster destruction into a repeatable, once-per-turn-per-effect destroy from the Graveyard: it revives itself when a monster is destroyed and then, once Special Summoned from the GY, destroys one opposing monster. Its score comes from that removal conversion and from the cheap, low-Level body that runs in very large numbers, not from its 550 ATK. The card is banished when it leaves the field, which limits material value and repeat use, and the absence of recorded combos keeps combo conversion low.

Axis scores

Axis Score Evidence
Accessibility 45 Needs a monster destruction to trigger the GY revive and the card is not searchable in the evidence; it is in 325 of 325 sampled decks at 1 copy in most, so it is live when it matters (observed/verified).
Combo & Conversion 35 No recorded combo boards exist, so conversion rests on the text alone: one destroy per use with no extra board build (inferred).
Resource Economy 45 Each use is roughly a 1-for-1 destruction, with a self-recycle from the GY, but there is no draw, search or refuel (inferred).
Effect & Interaction 60 Repeatable opposing-monster destruction from the GY, with two separate once-per-turn effects, is a real board-breaking tool (verified).
Material Utility 35 A Level 2 DARK Fiend is a usable material, but it is banished when it leaves the field, which limits how it can be reused as material (inferred).
Resilience & Flexibility 50 Living in the GY protects it from field-based removal, but it relies on a destruction event and is banished after leaving the field (inferred).
Deck-Building Efficiency 80 Single-copy, Level 2, no garnet or lock restriction; run in 1 copy in 306 of 325 decks, so it is cheap to include (observed).

Calculation

Weight profile: 0.7 Board breaker / Going-second + 0.3 Recovery/Recursion. Intrinsic ≈ 55, Deck ≈ 56, Meta = provisional. Modifiers: none. Final formula: 0.40*Intrinsic + 0.60*Deck (no meta sample; decks present)

Strengths

  • Repeatable once-per-turn-per-effect destruction of an opposing monster from the Graveyard
  • Low Level, single-copy body that is cheap to include
  • Present in every sampled deck across 45 archetypes

Weaknesses

  • Needs a monster destruction before it can revive
  • Banished when it leaves the field, so it cannot be reused after leaving
  • Score is capped by the lack of combo evidence

Counters / choke points

  • Field-based removal before it is in the GY
  • Opponent monsters that avoid destruction or can be protected

Best use

Board breaker / repeatable GY-based removal. Decks: Spright, Nimble, Melffy, Evil Twin, Unchained, Labrynth, Chimera. Suggested copies: 1.

Evidence & gaps

  • Verified: Two once-per-turn effects: GY revive on monster destruction (banished on leaving field) and a destroy on GY special summon; Used in 325 sampled decks across 45 archetypes, 1 copy in 306
  • Observed: Runs with Spright partners in about 70-87% of decks, mostly as a single copy
  • Inferred: Repeatable removal from the GY makes it a board breaker rather than a starter; Banish-on-leave limits material reuse and recursion
  • Data gaps: no combos supplied, combo conversion is text-only inference no banlist token, assumed 3 copies (unlimited) no usage statistics (StatisticsCard), archetype inclusion inferred from deck sample only
